Meet Our Community Health Worker:
Nohemy Velasco
Nohemy Velasco is the Community Health Worker (CHW) at Note-Able Music Therapy Services (NMTS). Nohemy is often the first smiling face you see when you walk into NMTS. When she is not at the front desk, Nohemy focuses on community outreach, works closely with current and prospective volunteers, and explores ways to expand NMTS’s reach within the community.
Nohemy is a first-generation Mexican American born and raised in Reno, Nevada. She holds degrees in Spanish Culture & Literature Studies and Theater Technical Design from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is actively involved in Reno’s local theater community.
Growing up, Nohemy often translated information and documents for her parents and helped navigate social programs to ensure her family had access to care and support. These experiences shaped her understanding of how challenging it can be to access resources—especially when language barriers, complex systems, or stigma are present. From a young age, she knew that investing in her community was something she felt deeply passionate about. When given the opportunity to become certified as a Community Health Worker, she gladly accepted, completed her certification, and began brainstorming ways to expand access to community resources for individuals who may not know how to find or navigate them.
This resource page was created with the community and its well-being in mind. Growing up in a household where asking for help was often frowned upon, Nohemy understands how difficult it can be to seek support—or even know where to begin. She is committed to ensuring that everyone knows resources exist to help improve their quality of life. This page represents one step forward in an ongoing effort to create a more accessible and inclusive community—one where everyone has representation, support, and access to the resources they deserve.
