Celebrating Older Americans Month
May is Older Americans Month, and this year's theme — Champion Your Health — couldn't resonate more with the work we do at Note-Able Music Therapy Services! The theme centers on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as cornerstones of healthy aging. At NMTS, we've seen firsthand for over two decades what research continues to confirm: music interventions for older adults show positive effects across psychological well-being, cognitive functioning, quality of life, and overall well-being. This month, we're proud to honor the older adults in our community, celebrate the programs we've built together, and remind everyone that music is one of the most powerful tools we have for championing our health at every age. Read on to see what we have in store.

Senior Choir at NMTS
There's something special about the sound of voices coming together — and that's exactly what inspired the launch of our Senior Choir program. Started by Allie Cheney, one of our adaptive music instructors, the group grew from a deeply personal place: a love of music shared with her grandmother and a firsthand understanding of what music can do for older adults. That inspiration is now an open door for anyone who wants to walk through it.
Senior Choir meets Wednesdays from 1:00–1:50 pm and is open to all adults — no prior singing or choir experience needed. Members explore choral styles, vocal health, and music techniques in a welcoming, community-centered space. Performance opportunities are offered for those who want them, but never required. If you or someone you know has been looking for a reason to sing, this is it. We'd love to grow this group and would be so grateful for you to help spread the word. Exciting News: New Postpartum Support Groups
We are thrilled to announce that NMTS has received a Renown Health Community Benefit Grant to fund our new postpartum support groups — and we couldn't be more grateful.
Last month, our team joined Renown Health at their grant celebration event, where they distributed over $1 million to 65 local nonprofits working to address our community's most critical health needs. Being in that room alongside so many mission-driven organizations was a powerful reminder of what's possible when a community invests in itself.
Postpartum mental health is real, it matters, and new parents deserve dedicated support. These groups will offer a music centered space for connection and care during one of life's most significant — and sometimes most challenging — transitions. The weekly groups will be an opportunity for new parents to rest, reconnect, and reset. We are so proud to be expanding our services in this direction and can't wait to share more details as the program launches.
A heartfelt thank you to Renown Health for making this possible. Stay tuned for more information coming soon!
