"You can't separate peace from freedom, because no one can be at peace unless he has his freedom." - Malcolm X

Hello -

It’s Pride Month, and we’re celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and the journey toward liberation and equality - reminding ourselves that everyone deserves the freedom to be their true selves without fear or judgment.

Liberation isn’t just about loving who we choose, it’s about creating safe spaces where everyone can thrive. We at NMTS know that music has the power to help us express who we really are. It brings people together and creates a sense of belonging.

This Pride Month, let’s celebrate the diverse stories that make our community so special. Together we can create a more accepting society where everyone feels valued for who they are. Let’s stand together for liberation and equality for all!

Camps are filling up fast

Don’t miss out on the best week of the summer. NMTS’s summer day camps are full of singing, dancing, and general music shenanigans. It is a great opportunity to meet other NMTS participants, work on social skills and make new friends! All participants will have a chance to perform at the end of the week for their family and friends.

This year, our kids camp will introduce participants to music from around the world with guest artists and so much more.

NMTS camps are open to children and adults with disabilities. There are two sessions: Kids Camp is July 7th thru July 11th, and Teen & Adult camp is July 14th thru July 18th.

Cost of the camp is $100 for kids, and $200 for adults - sliding scale available.

Space is limited!

To register please contact Nohemy Velasco at nohemy@nmtsreno.org

Art at NMTS

Photos of art from Uncharted Waters and Daniela Schnebly, one shows a participant enjoying the art

We can do so much with our new space! And one of those things is have an art gallery - or a few! The walls at NMTS are filling up with the work of local artists and we couldn't be more excited to showcase their work. Our staff and participants are really enjoying being surrounded by art when they walk into the building.

We started with an exhibition from Uncharted Waters, a program through Sierra Arts, that holds workshops for people with disabilities. Participants learn technique, art history, color theory, etc. and they create thoughtful and unique, collaborative pieces. You can see their work right now in our atrium and west-side hallways.

The most recent exhibition up in our auditorium is from local artist Daniela Schnebly. Using retired license plates, Daniela transforms them into the unexpected. Some of her pieces are whimsical, playful - even funny - while other abstract and minimalist pieces are more thought-provoking in their movement and form. Even with her more "serious" pieces, the bright colors and the way the light plays off the reflective sheeting of the license plates, you get the feeling of being in a candy shop. Come see for yourself. They are truly joyful to behold.
