Happy New Year!

After a week off, I am (somewhat) rested and ready to face all of the excitement of the coming year! One thing I tried to do during the holidays was work on being present and experiencing life as it was happening. Like many people, I tend to focus a lot on the past and the future...what hasn't gotten done, what needs to be done, what will happen if xyz doesn't happen, etc. By doing so I feel like I've got things under control, but I’m really just missing out on what's happening around me. I actually spent significant amounts of time without my laptop or phone during the holidays, and it felt great! So that's my resolution for 2023 - try to be more present and less distracted. I also found this article in the Guardian called 100 Ways to Slightly Improve your Life Without Really Trying. It has some great suggestions for small things we can all do to help us be happier and healthier, including ways to incorporate music into our routines. And to celebrate the new year, we will be starting a new Music and Wellness workshop in February. This popular 8-week workshop is a fun and educational way to improve your cognitive, physical, and mental health. It's also a great way to make sure that you keep at least some of your new year's resolutions 🙂.

New Music & Wellness Group

8-week workshop | Mondays starting Feb 6th, 2023 | 12:00-1:00pm on ZOOM

The Music and Wellness Workshop provides a range of innovative, research-based, and effective ways to “hack” your own neurology with music to live a richer, more fulfilling, and healthier life.

With the guidance of NMTS music therapists, you will be empowered to use music in intentional ways to promote your health. Past participants have reported reduced stress, increased motivation, and even healthier relationships. In the words of one recent participant:

"I can't believe how much I've absorbed and enjoyed from this class!!!!!!! I've been listening to music for hours today. And have learned so much and shared a lot of it with family. I'm just sorry it's coming to an end.”

Cost - $200 If the cost is prohibitive, please let us know. We do have a sliding scale available.

Welcome, Cony!

We are so excited to introduce our new Program Support Specialist Cony Linarez. If you call or visit us, Cony will most likely be the one greeting you so don’t hesitate to say hi!

Born in Mexico, Cony came to the United States as a teen. Growing up with the best of both worlds, Cony comes to Note-Able Music Therapy Services with a full-rounded experience in the arts, non-profit and business worlds. As a business owner on Wells Avenue, she served on the board and as the president of the Wells Avenue Merchants and Property Owners Association. She also served on the board of directors for Artown for 2 years. She holds an associate degree in secondary education from Truckee Meadows Community College and has extensive experience in event planning, volunteer management and building management. She is excited to bring her skills to NMTS at this time of growth and expansion. In addition to a passion for art, culture and travel, Cony is happy to have the opportunity to serve NMTS participants and their families and improve the lives of people in her community.

New Community Partnerships thanks to a Washoe County Community Reinvestment Grant

We are excited to announce we will be starting several new community partnerships with funding from a Washoe County Community Reinvestment grant! As of now we have confirmed partnerships with Our Place/RISE, United Cerebral Palsy of Nevada, Crossroads, with more to come!

The grant program is intended to address:

  • Negative economic impacts spurred or exacerbated by the pandemic;

  • Systemic community challenges through improved service delivery; and

  • Planning and preparation for future events that cause service disruptions.

We are honored that Washoe County recognizes the value of music therapy, and we are looking forward to expanding our reach to hundreds of additional people throughout the community. Click here for more information about the program and other grant recipients.
